For Aurelio, the future is young people. He is Senior Director for Guatemala in the Global Visionaries organization, which is dedicated to giving young people tools to become local and global leaders through cultural exchanges between young people from Guatemala and young people from Seattle, United States. These young people are gathered together for community service projects that have an emphasis on social and environmental justice. The program includes workshops, retreats, community service and cultural immersion.
When Aurelio teaches, what gives him inspiration is the change that the participants have: they enter as students and leave as leaders. Aurelio looks proudly at the impact that has been achieved in the cohorts of the young people who have gone through the program.
The most powerful lesson of his time in the ALG Diploma was learning that we all lead directly or indirectly in our field and that our leadership has consequences -- if we stop leading we take away an opportunity for society to grow or improve on fundamental issues.
