Rosario Saqui- Leader of the Month

One can find Rosario working at the Centro de Estudios Atitlán of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala as Administrative Secretary. In this role, she gives talks in the local language as a translator and educator of the community for environmental protection and women's health and nutrition. Apart from this work, on the weekends Rosario volunteers with children encouraging them to read and paint.

What inspires Rosario most of all is the opportunity to support her community to understand that they can change their attitude in their cultures by returning to the traditions of their ancestors which supports a healthy environment for themselves and future generations.

The biggest challenge for her as a leader is breaking her own paradigms and she notes that what helped her the most to overcome that challenge "was the diploma because I taught her that from a powerful inspiration you overcome a challenge by using simple words, example; asking myself what I want to achieve, how can I achieve this?” When she talks about her time at the diploma, she says that what impacted her the most was the Circle of Trust, in which everyone could express without anyone judging you, talk with freedom without offending anyone and all participants are present with you in the moment, with this circle you get together with people to think and find answers. That, for her, is the most powerful tool in her daily work.
